The man who killed 11 people and wounded seven others at the Tree of Life Congregation in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh on Oct. 27, 2018, posted incessantly on social media platforms about his hatred of Jewish people and immigrant populations. He has been sentenced to death.
The self-described white nationalist who killed 23 people at a Walmart store in El Paso on Aug. 3, 2019, targeted people of Mexican descent and posted an anti-immigrant screed online just minutes before he opened fire. He has been sentenced to 90 consecutive life terms.
The Anti-Defamation League recorded more than 6,700 incidents of white supremacist propaganda distribution and in-person events last year

Ottawa W. Gurley was a Black educator, entrepreneur, and landowner who was born to former enslaved Africans. At the beginning of the 20th century, he bought 40 acres of land in Tulsa, Okla. Gurley forged a partnership with Black businessman John the Baptist Stradford, and the two developed an all-Black district in Tulsa, which became known as Greenwood. When hundreds of African Americans moved to Greenwood for the oil boom, the two became increasingly wealthy. Greenwood’s prosperity became legendary in Black America, with Booker T. Washington dubbing it "Black Wall Street." After O.W. built several square two-story brick boardinghouses near his grocery store, he called the street on which these structures sat Greenwood Avenue, after the Mississippi town from which many of his early residents hailed. Before long, the entire area became known as Greenwood, which soon became the site for a school and an African Methodist Episcopal Church. But O.W.’s crowning project was the Gurley Hotel, whose high quality rivaled that of the finest White hotels in the state.

There are more than one hundred uncontacted tribes around the world. Uncontacted tribes are Indigenous peoples who avoid all contact with outsiders. They're not backward and primitive relics of a remote past, they are our contemporaries and a vitally important part of humankind's diversity.

When the willing agents of slavery dispersed the people of Africa, not only were people relocated, but along with them parts of their culture, including their religions. For the majority of Africans who ended up on the shores of St. Domingue, voodoo (also sometimes spelled vo-du) was their religion. Although one term is used to describe voodoo, there are actually many different forms of voodoo, much as Christianity consists of many different denominations. In voodooism, however, peoples from different parts of Africabrought different religious beliefs, which combined and reshaped each other in Haiti. Still, some observers claimed that different strands of African religion remained unentangled in their Haitian descendants. For example, “the Nago populations generally inhabit the north [of Haiti]…the Ibos tend to live in the southwest.” The various voodoo sects differ as to which god or gods are more important to that particular tribe.

The Royal Palaces of Abomey are the major material testimony to the Kingdom of Dahomey which developed from the mid-17th century by the precept enunciated by its founder, Wegbaja, “that the kingdom shall always be made greater”. Under the twelve kings who succeeded from 1625 to 1900, the kingdom established itself as one of the most powerful on the western coast of Africa. The site of the Royal Palaces of Abomey covers an area of 47 ha and consists of a set of ten palaces, some of which are built next to each other and others that are superimposed, according to the succession to the throne. These palaces obey the principles relating to the culture Aja-Fon and constitute not only the decision-making center of the kingdom, but also the center for the development of craft techniques, and storage for the treasures of the kingdom. The site consists of two parts since the palace of King Akaba is separated from that of his father Wegbaja by one of the city's main roads and some residential areas. These two areas are enclosed by partially preserved cob walls. The palaces have organizational constants because each is surrounded by walls and built around three courtyards (outer, inner, and private). The use of traditional materials and polychrome bas-reliefs are important architectural features. Today, the palaces are no longer inhabited, but those of King Ghézo and King Glélé house the Historical Museum of Abomey, which illustrates the history of the kingdom and its symbolism through a desire for independence, resistance, and fight against colonial occupation.
